by the_real_linda @ Saturday, May. 31, 2008 - 17:56:01

At the beginning of the year, director Michael Bay (the devil, grr) said that Jazz wouldn't be back for Transformers 2, but it looks like things have changed. TFW2005.com writes:

The Pontiac Solstice vehicle prop of Autobot Jazz arrived on the set of Transformers 2 earlier today. In addition we've received confirmation from a second tipster that Darius McCrary, the voice of Movie Jazz, is now on set as well.

Filming for the sequel is now taking place in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania at the former Bethlehem Steel site.

double feature

I found a way to make my sister watch 'Them!' and it involved 'Hairspray' (the musical remake.)

We watched half of 'Hairspray' and then all of 'Them!' and then the rest of 'Hairspray' otherwise she said she couldn't concentrate on a black and white film. I think she got into it when the giant ant first appeared.

She went "WOAH look at the big nit!" and then called it a "Termite."... she didnt like that the people were trying to kill it and shoot off it's antenna and cheered for the ant. She said that they should use a giant nit comb to get them. Well she's certainly given a new perspective to the film for me.

Aah school holdidays!

Thing On Your Doorstep

Stuart Gordon's Thing on the Doorstep Update
Source:Ryan Rotten
May 20, 2008

Stuart Gordon last dabbled in the world of H.P. Lovecraft in the Masters of Horror entry Dreams in the Witch House, then he went on to helm Stuck a bloody thriller culled from newspaper headlines. With the release of that film on the way, its back to treading the indescribable unknown in The Thing on the Doorstep, Gordon's next Lovecraft adaptation that he'll be lensing for Stuck's Amicus Entertainment.

"We're casting it now, as a matter of fact," Gordon updates ShockTillYouDrop.com. He also confirms screenwriter, longtime creative partner Dennis Paoli (Re-Animator, From Beyond) adapted the 1933 source material. Right now, Gordon is aiming for a fall principal photography start.

"In our version it's about a psychiatrist who gets this patient, a young girl who comes in, who he thinks has multiple personality disorder. And he knows that in all cases of multiple personality involves sexual abuse," Gordon explains of his film's approach for the first time. "So, he's very intrigued by this girl, but he's also very drawn to her. One of her personalities keeps trying to seduce him. Eventually he gives in and he's having sex with her and he says to her, 'Is this good for you?' And she says, 'Why don't you see for yourself?' Suddenly they switch bodies and he's now in her body and she's in his. This lasts for a few seconds and it's like, what the hell happened? It turns out this girl is actually a sorceress and wants to take over his body and she is eventually going to become him. It's one of...I won't say it's the only Lovecraft story that has a strong female character."

The Hobbit and Sequel...

by the_real_linda @ Wednesday, May. 21, 2008 - 14:30:08

Pre-production is about to get under way on The Hobbit and its sequel, says Variety.

Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens are expected to write the scripts under the direction of Peter Jackson and Guillermo del Toro. Preliminary contact has already been made with at least three actors whose "Lord of the Rings" characters also appear in the "Hobbit" storyline: Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn), Ian McKellen (Gandalf) and Andy Serkis (Gollum).

"We will all be involved in the script in some fashion but the exact definition is about a week away, " said del Toro. "I am all for keeping the actors who originated the parts, as much as availability and their willingness will allow."

Del Toro will also be producing Hater with Mark Johnson for Universal Pictures. Based on David Moody's 2006 novel, the thriller is about an epidemic of random violence in which ordinary people strike lethally without warning or remorse. The book will be adapted for the screen by Glen Mazzara (FX's "The Shield").

Bale Signed for All Three Terminator Films

Source: BBC News
May 20, 2008

Christian Bale is to play rebel leader John Connor in three sequels to the "Terminator" franchise, starting with Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, according to BBC News:

The Welsh-born star, who is soon to be seen in Batman Begins sequel The Dark Knight, has already started shooting the first of those films, Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins.

"He's really an actor's actor, so we're very proud," said Victor Kubicek of film company Halcyon.

"Christian was our first choice and he's a big fan of The Terminator, so we're very lucky," Kubicek told the BBC at the Cannes Film Festival.

"But with Batman he's already done the whole franchise thing, so we weren't sure he'd respond."

Luckily, said Kubicek's business partner Derek Anderson, "he read the script and he loved it, so he's signed on for all three."

The first new installment, co-starring Sam Worthington, Anton Yelchin and Moon Bloodgood, centers on John Connor, now in his 30s, who leads what is left of the human race in a battle against the machines. Directed by McG, Warner Bros. will release the film on May 22, 2009.

Cameron on Avatar

by the_real_linda @ Tuesday, May. 20, 2008 - 23:44:59

"'Avatar' will make people truly experience something," said Cameron. "One more layer of the suspension of disbelief will be removed. All the syn-thespians are photo-realistic. Now that we've achieved it, we discovered CG characters in 3D look more real than in 2D. Your brain is cued it's a real thing not a picture and discounting part of [the] image that makes it look fake."

"'Avatar' is the single most complex piece of filmmaking ever made," said Cameron. "We have 1,600 shots for a 2.5 hour movie. It's not with a single CGI character, like King Kong or Gollum. We have hundreds of photo-realistic CG characters. We were Microsoft's sandbox for filmmaking beyond the cutting edge."

Spielberg & Jackson to Co-Direct 3rd Tintin?

Source: The Dominion Post, BBC News
May 20, 2008

Media outlets caught up with Steven Spielberg at the Cannes Film Festival and got a few interesting quotes out of the Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull director.

Starting with Indy, Spielberg said that he would make another film, "Only if you want more." He added, "That's why we made this Indiana Jones. We'll certainly have our ear to the ground to hear what happens. That'll decide were we go from here."

We certainly don't think money will be an issue, as the movie is expected to make anywhere between $150-175 million in its first five days domestically alone. That's not counting the 61 international markets it will be released in at the same time on Thursday.

But before another "Indiana Jones" movie can start, Spielberg is working on adaptating "Tintin" for the big screen. As was previously announced, he is directed the first Tintin while Peter Jackson is helming the second. But who will sit in the director's chair for the third installment of the trilogy?

"We are going to make three 'Tintin' movies back-to-back," Spielberg said. "I'll direct the first one, Peter will direct the second one. We'll probably co-direct the third one."

Bettany on Ironman

by the_real_linda @ Monday, May. 19, 2008 - 19:22:59

You may have to be end-credit crazy, a full-fledged IMDb fanatic or have a really good ear for voices to recognize the clipped British tones of Tony Stark's high-tech valet Jarvis in Iron Man as belonging to actor Paul Bettany.

On a set visit to his latest film Legion, Bettany told Superhero Hype! that while he did indeed provide vocals for Jarvis – upgraded into a fully integrated artificial intelligence in Stark's home and armor from the traditional English butler who's tended to Stark and the Avengers in the pages of the comics for decades – the actor had only the vaguest notion of who and what he was playing.

"I didn't know I was in a superhero movie," Bettany confessed, who owed his turn to a previous acting experience with Iron Man director Jon Favreau in 2004's Wimbledon. "I made a movie with Jon Favreau before and he rung me up and said, 'Paul...'" [laughs]. He rung me up and was really funny on the phone. I said, 'Yeah, alright.' I genuinely didn't know. I'm really naive, but it's the f**king truth."

"I really didn't know what I was going in for because it was two hours in a recording booth," Bettany explained. "I went in and recorded with Jon Favreau, doing all the lines, recording them and went home and now I'm a f**king hero to my children. I haven't even seen it yet. I haven't had time because I've been working for 17 hours [a day]."

Bettany played it coy when asked he was booked for a return appearance in either the announced Iron Man or its expected tie-in, The Avengers. "It just made a ton of money – I would imagine so," he chuckled. "I mean, I don't know, but I'm guessing with the way the world works: they make a ton of money from a movie and then they make another one."

DreamWorks is bringing a project on the life of legendary pirate Blackbeard to the big screen, reports Variety.

David Franzoni, who wrote Amistad and Gladiator for the studio, will write Blackbeard, which delves into the life of British buccaneer Edward Teach.

Barry Josephson (Enchanted) is producing alongside motivational speaker and former Philadelphia 76ers president/co-owner Pat Croce, who wrote "Pirate Soul," a book that chronicled the golden era of piracy, which spanned 1690-1730.

"I haven't even told Steven or Harrison this," he told Friedman. "But I have an idea to make Shia [LaBeouf] the lead character next time and have Harrison [Ford] come back like Sean Connery did in the last movie. I can see it working out.
