My Top 10 Films 2007

by the_real_linda @ Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007 - 00:27:29

Films... those wonderful things... yes cinema of 2007... guess I'm gearing up for 2008 and what that has install for me, but lets not forget 2007. Here's my own personal Top 10... this may take me a while to do... and don't expect it to be in a perfect order since what I like changes.... often...

http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/6876/bullseyedartboardlb2.jpgIiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin 10...

hmmm, I think i'll go get my ticket stubs first to see what I've seen at the cinema, that might help

10. Saw 4

http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/3217/saw4posterjq4.jpg

You know I'm not sure why this is here, I didn't like it first time I saw it but second time I really enjoyed it... I love the entire series... some Amanda
http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/7432/shawneesmith53wl4.jpg
 (I mean newly filmed stuff)
http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/7011/shawneesmith70yr6.gif
would have been a big bonus but I still think they've got it... Once again Horror fan so opinion probs isn't worth much lol.

Great to see Emmanuelle Vaugier as Addison(Saw 2) briefly (My friend didn't notice...but hawk eye me did)

http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/9972/saw2slideshow2wr8.jpg

I personally liked when someone commented on a teddy or something (im not too clear on it) that Hoffman had and they asked about his kids... he said something along the lines of it being a long story but it was Jeff's daughter, Corbett's teddy... as Hoffman had kidnapped her and it had nothing to do with Amanda... nice little touches like that.

Tobin Bell (The Kill Point, Boogey Man 2, The Quick and The Dead) was fantastic per usual really getting to the centre of his character John.

http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/7770/jigsaw429x278qr9.jpg

Lyriq Bent (Harvest Moon, Angela's Eyes, Four Brothers) did a great job as Rigg, again... I remember in Saw 3 thinking he was gonna be central from him intro shot at the start... he is framed like a hero... honestly go back and watch the start of Saw 3 and you'll get what I mean.

http://img184.imageshack.us/img184/227/71816108vg2.jpg
http://img166.imageshack.us/img166/2721/lyriqjp3.jpg

9. 28 Weeks Later

http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/8420/28weekslaterxd2.jpg

Personally I think this took risks visually and it seemed that it was all 2nd unit that did it, you can just tell... but it didnt do anything new with the genre, it went down the inevitable path. (as me and a friend had a script in the works that was more or less but mostly more this film, just we were gonna film it in Newcastle... but bygones) It was harsh and jumpy and creepy and saddening. I saw this to a packet out preview and a friend couldn't get in cause she got there a few minutes after us (always get tickets in the morning if you're going on a night time... it's what I do)... I felt such an energy from the audience that I rarely get. (1408 and Final Destination were other instances where I got a woompfy audience feeling from a film)

8. Stardust

http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/1336/stardust10sn5.jpg

Fantastic visually and fun for everyone. Only annoyance was Ricky Gervais having to promote it... not that he wasn't good in it and I get why he promoted it, still dosent make him any less annoying.

Eventually a film where Michelle Pfeiffer didn't annoy me in and she almost stole it for me, and looked hot (which I never thought she did) and no not when she was all hagged and icky. I mean how old is she now anyways? Gotta be nearly 50?
http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/9567/000888220863an7.jpg
http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/1429/stardust3243x206va0.jpg

Robert De Nero as a gay pirate...

http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/7446/stardustrobertdenirohs1.jpg

made it for me, he is such an excellent actor and living legend that he can pull this off so incredibly and when I got in from seeing this I rang my grandad and told him (he's a fan) and he thought it was fantastic.

Mark Heap and Julian Rhind-Tutt were fantastic!
http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/1865/markheapnq7.jpg

http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/4675/ef5ec5.jpg

7. Black Sheep

http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/3207/blacksheeppg8.jpg

I'm a horror fan through and through and this did it for me gore wise, not that gore is scary its not, its icky and i like to be icked out... sometimes...The effects were great because they were not flashy CGI bollocks.

I can't wait to see something new from Jonathan King, his next film called 'The Tattooist' is another horror staring Jason Behr (Roswell).

This had echoes of 'Brain Dead' or 'Undead' (both I recommend if you ain't seen them) and it wasnt just cause it was made in New Zealand (yes I know 'Undead' is Australian... just it felt like Peter Jackson's early work) plus I love the Kiwi accent... so another plus, for me.

Nathan Meister was great and cute,

http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/6599/nathanky1.jpg
as was Tammy Davis
http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/7355/munterqm6.gif
 and Danielle Mason
http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/2518/2007blacksheep003bm3.jpg

6. Rob Zombie's Halloween

http://img184.imageshack.us/img184/2818/newzombiehalloweenpostebr2.jpg

I love it, not with the theatrical ending but im hoping on the dvd that it'll have the other one on (some may know what im talking about) so i saw it at the cinema and it wasn't as good as an earlier cut but it was still fantastic... remember horror fan, i know what the view on the genre usually is but i love them.
http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/1717/2137220527fs2.jpg
 Tyler Mane(Sabertooth)
http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/5843/sabertooth3vh1.gif
as the tallest to play Michael Myers seemed a little too tall for me
http://img172.imageshack.us/img172/7193/shapetiltkk4.jpg
 but with Sherri Moon
http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/1640/about1mn8.jpg
 in I wasnt complaining.
http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/2925/halloween1um6.jpg

Im a Rob Zombie (House of 1000 Corpses, Devils Rejects) fan and I can tell from his films that he gets horror films. I think he's into 'The Munsters' actually.

Danny 'Machete' Trejo,
http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/2217/macheteframegrabsnw5.jpg
Bill Moseley,

http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/9343/18647796um1.jpg
Sid Haig
http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/1998/beyondatlantis1tw7.jpg
and Ken Foree
http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/5795/kenforeedawnofthedeadvr4.jpg

I would have enjoyed more Brad Dourif
http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/5930/281x211my4.jpg
(Chucky)
http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/1167/chuckymn9.jpg

and Malcolm McDowell turned in a stellar performance as Loomis also,

 http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/6982/000472793475jw8.jpg

and nice to see that kid from 'Spy Kids' be Michaels first kill... Daryl Sabara.

http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/7355/monster07170604og5.jpg

I love the original more but if Rob didn't change it we would have moaned that he didn't do anything new with it, I don't think it needed a re-make and I don't think any film does but this was a bloody great take on it.

5. Sunshine

I mean wow it looked fantastic, it seems with films like this that indie film making (stylistically) has came into the mainstream. It took risks and to me it paid off.

Michelle Yeoh was fantastic and there could have done more with her.
http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/4782/myeohbrep2.jpg

and Rose Byrne(28 Weeks Later) was great too
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/6139/byrneke1.jpg

I have enjoyed Danny Boyle's previous films and all are reccomended. I hopefully this isnt just for sci-
fi fans.

Though my mum hates this film so warning but I loved it. Had to be seen on the big screen, some films are just like that you know?

4. 1408

http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/5931/1408tu5.jpg

I was hesitant on going to see this but then i found out Tony Shalhoub

http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/108/74582186ud6.jpg

was in it and so I went. Boy was I glad I did, personally i thought it was one of the best Stephen King adaptations... (personal fav is Misery)... it made me jump and all creeped out, tense while watching it and tense when i got home.

Samuel L. Jackson was so cool as always adn his delivery of lines is second to none (he was fantastic in 'Black Snake Moan' this year too.)

http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/2806/pre2fp4.jpg
It was great and a surprise to see Andrew Lee Potts (Ideal) too.
http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/7196/potts1du4.jpg

3. Waitress

http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/9407/waitressgr9.jpg

I saw this on account of loving Nate Fillion (Firefly, Drive and White Noise 2, which was awful and I saw for him and Katee Sackhoff)

http://img120.imageshack.us/img120/5490/nathanfillion97cp2.jpg

and it was sooo unexpectedly great... bitter sweet and funny and so quaint. Jeremy Sisto (Dead and Breakfast, Six Feet Under) was fantastic as Earl, Jenna's (Kerri Russel of 'Felicity') husband.
http://img245.imageshack.us/img245/2730/biosistobg0.jpg

The writer, director and star Adrienne Shelly died (1st November) before its release and it makes it all the more heartbreaking.

http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/9296/3748099246b797cd6baek4.jpg
http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/6416/adrienneshelly0427bt4.jpg

2. Hairspray

Yeah I said it i love 'Hairspray'... My sister had to beg and beg and force me to take her to see it and I boogied my bum off at the Cinema... Loved the songs, Loved James Marsden and Elijah Kelley.

Made my mum watch it Christmas Day but she got out of it on account of cooking most of the time (she cant tolerate singing in films... this is the woman who flicked past 'Colors Of The Wind' in 'Pocahontas'...! Sacrilege indeed!)

http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/3014/jamesmarsdenps0.jpg
http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/5753/201pxelijahkelleyom8.jpg

1. Hot Fuzz

http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/7453/hotfuzzpf8.jpg

I loved, no I still Love this film. Down to meeting the guys- Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost and the fact it was such a rich film that you get something from it every time. I wish there was more Bill Bailey
http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/622/billbaileylep2.jpg
but I love everyone in this film... British Comedy is great with the likes of my personal favs Olivia Colman
http://img172.imageshack.us/img172/6154/charsophiesw1.jpg
 and Kevin Eldon,
http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/5426/keldonws8.jpg
not forgetting a nice cameo by Peter Jackson and Cate Blanchett.

So there you have it folks just some of the films i enjoyed... tho i also saw a lot of children films courtesy of my sister. And since Ive looked over that I think its in the wrong order but it's too much trouble to move stuff. Okay I attempted a move and I'm still not happy but I need a cup of tea.

My Cat The Betrayer...

by the_real_linda @ Friday, Dec. 28, 2007 - 18:15:15

Yeah little, or not-so little... (he's been getting fed off us and the people opposite us out back who are nicking him) so he's a little fat now. (My... or formerly my cat Xander was a skinny minny to be honest, his mother was short and skinny and he was too but he's plainly a fat cat now and it pisses me right off...hmmm)... so he came in last night, well he wouldn't for my mum but I came down to get him in and he did for me, dunno why... but today Elise (the old wifey next door) told us he's gone...

We FREAKED! thinking that something had happened... that he'd been ran over ( the house opposite us leads onto a main road on the other side) but nope he's just decided to sod off to his new home... I'm okay-ish with it now but he tried to attack Willow( his ickle half sister and our other cat... or only cat, I'm confused now)

Oh and nail in the coffin... get this they arent happy with the name 'Xander'...

http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/9987/actxandercopiarsg5.jpg

What's wrong with it?

I'm such a huge 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' fan (from day one)

http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/2461/buftitlehi3.jpg

and Xander and Willow are its core,

http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/5674/willowxander2zb7.jpg
http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/5436/buffy06xc8.jpg
http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/6351/xanderwillowjo8.jpg

so inevitably I called them after my two fav characters, I always name our pets... I name other things too actually like laptops, bags, ipods, socks... not sure why. But you can't re-name him... not that he responds to it much but really what's wrong with the name Xander?

I Am A Foot

http://www.collider.com/uploads/imageGallery/I_Am_Legend/i_am_legend_will_smith__1_.jpg

http://img.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2007/12_03/WillSmithREX_468x626.jpg

Now out of interest did anyone else get the feeling that they had seen the 'dark' humans virus-y people in another film before?

Can't have just been me who thought that, right?

Anywhos nice going with the Bob Marley thing with him dying of the big 'C' and all... plus I got to groove in my seat a little.

http://www.everygeneration.co.uk/BluePlaquespics/BobMarley.jpg

Personally I dont think everyone will like the film, my mates sister would'nt... she'd be all like "BORING! NOTHINGS HAPPENING!" but thats her I guess. I really enjoyed it, I did cry (I'm emotional I guess) I shouted for him to run away and I liked what they touched on with religion, take what you want from it... good film...

and I LOVE Will Smith...

ooh and another 'Cloverfield' and 'Sweeny Todd' trailer on there when ya do.

http://us.ent2.yimg.com/musicfinder.yahoo.com/images/yahoo/columbia/willsmith/0502_will_smith_a.jpg

Go out well stay in and find 'The Last Man On Earth' too... we all love Vincent Price, some more than others...

Sam Raimi 'Drag Me To Hell'

by the_real_linda @ Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007 - 16:22:59

Sam Raimi (http://www.geocities.com/~samraimi/)

http://www.nndb.com/people/650/000025575/samraimi04.jpg

(who is set to direct 'The Hobbit' since Peter Jackson bowed out to do 'Tin Tin' )

Yep Sam is back to what he's good at, a supernatural thriller he wrote with his brother, Ivan Raimi. (Ivan previously worked with Sam on Spider Man 3, Army Darkness and Dark Man.)

According to Variety, the morality tale about the unwitting recipient of a supernatural curse will go into production early next year. 'Ghost House Pictures' is financing the film. http://ghosthousepictures.comingsoon.net/

Sam Raimi
http://msnbcmedia3.msn.com/j/msnbc/Components/Photos/2007/June/070605/070605_raimi_vsmall.widec.jpg
 and Rob Tapert
http://www.xenaville.com/cast/rob5.jpg

(Yes Rob's the one married to Lucy 'Xena' Lawless) http://xenaspain.webcindario.com/Biografias/fotos_LL/boda.jpg

...will produce with Grant Curtis, and Josh Donen will executive produce with Mandate's Nathan Kahane and Joe Drake.

Tapert said the Raimis penned the script well before the formation of Ghost House. It was originally written under the title "The Curse" and completed right after the siblings collaborated on 1992's 'Army of Darkness', which Sam Raimi directed.

So i'm hoping it'll have an old school Raimi brothers feel to it.

"Sam calls it a 'spook-a-blast,' a wild ride with all the chills and spills that 'Evil Dead' delivered, without relying on the excessive violence of that film," Tapert said. "When one has done three very expensive movies, they get used to eating caviar. Sam will have to ponder what it means to come down from the mountaintop for a moment."

Tekken

by the_real_linda @ Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007 - 16:00:47

Another game based film coming your way.

Heres the wikipedia link if you're clueless on what 'Tekken' is-  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tekken_(series)

Dwight Little(Bones,24,The X-Files,Millenium) is set to direct 'Tekken'. Crystal Sky Pictures is financing the film, which begins production Feb. 4 in Shreveport, La. CSP's Steven Paul and Benedict Carver will produce. Alan McElroy (Wrong Turn and Wrong Turn 2, The Marine, Spawn, Halloween 4 and upcoming Bonesaw) wrote the script.

"The film plays out as a science fiction story set in the near future, about a rebel who rises up against the Tekken Corp. to seize freedom for his people," Little said. "It's a gladiator story, but the videogame has a complicated enough storyline that it provides the template for a martial arts spectacular."

Personally I'm not big on 'Tekken' although Heihachi Mishima's hair scared me.

My Cats Been Knicked...

by the_real_linda @ Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007 - 12:57:18

Yep the people opposite us have knicked one of my cats. My first cat, Xander, he goes over there in the daytime anyways but now some bloke over there whos cat died wants to keep him. Nice! (yes that was sarcasm and me and my sister aint happy) but if Xander dosent come back over then fairy snuff. I'm still annoyed though... like my sister is 9 and some old dude asks for her cat at Christmas... and he'll be after Willow next as she goes in there as well, when she isnt following me around the house.

Well Merry Christmas to all cat lovers.
